14 weeks 1 day

Today I am 14 weeks 1 day pregnant. I apologize for my absence on here, the past few days weeks have been kind of busy and I seem to find the blog rather far down on my list of to do's. Between birthdays, holidays, school plays, bowling, doctors, school meetings, etc... My blogging has fallen behind.

My appointment on Tuesday in Phoenix went great. The doctor was nice, and actually educated. He wants me to stay down there just so he can follow my case. We had an ultrasound, actually... three. We did one and the baby was in a bad position for both the test and to find out the gender so she had me drink a lot... and I mean A LOT of water and she tried again. The baby was still in a bad position. So then she said to see the doctor and we would try again. I ended holding my bladder for about an hour and a half or so wanting to BURST. The next day, I had a BAD uti. Thanks. I barely made it out of the office before puking and to top things off, they couldn't see the gender. Haha :) I went in to see my doctor the next day and got to hear the heartbeat, again. It was 170!!

But my little angel is healthy, so I'm happy.

Here's a picture of the baby:

**see that HUGE balloon pressing on the baby? Ya, that would be my bladder.

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb!(NOTE MY ULTRASOUND PICTURE ABOVE, MY BABY IS SUCKING HER THUMB!!) Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.
